When to visit South Africa?

We recommend visiting during the dry season (May-early November).

It’s the best time to maximize your chances of spotting wildlife. Indeed, as water sources become scarce, animals tend to gather around waterholes, making them easier to find.

You’ll be tracking herbivores that constantly need to drink, and you just have to wait for the predators to follow.

The vegetation will be thinner, reducing the chances for animals to hide in the tall grass.

However, the rainy season has its perks. It’s the birthing period, migratory birds will be present (as will the rain), and the landscapes will be colorful. Unfortunately, there’s a higher chance of encountering rain during your stay.

But no matter the time, it will always be home of the Big Five.

This is why we ideally recommend September. October can be unpredictable: sometimes dry and sunny, sometimes cloudy and cool, heralding the rains of the season.

Be sure to pack warm clothes as well as summer attire, regardless of when you go. Mornings and evenings are always cool, much more than you might imagine.
